Can you use CBD for dog glaucoma?
We’ve previously explained how CBD can support eye health. But did you also know it can help dogs with glaucoma? Though it’s not a cure for the condition, CBD can help manage symptoms in dogs. Here, Baked Goods explains why CBD may be considered for treating this health issue.
What is glaucoma in dogs?
Glaucoma is a disease that increases eye pressure, potentially causing pain and blindness. “Also known as intraocular pressure (IOP), this condition is a result of an imbalance in the production of fluid and drainage,” says PetMD. Symptoms of glaucoma in dogs may include:
- Cloudy appearance of the eyes
- Squinting; increased amounts of sleep
- Loss of appetite
- Watery secretions from the eyes
Meeting your vet is needed to plan for your dog’s glaucoma treatment. You may also want to inquire about CBD oil for your dog – we explain why below.
Why consider CBD for pets
CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system to support balance throughout the body; this affects vision. When your dog is given CBD for glaucoma, it may promote these benefits:
- Reductions in eye pain and pressure
- Protection against oxidative damage
- Anti-inflammatory effects
CBD is surprisingly easy to administer to pets. If you need assistance, let us know! Keep in mind that vet consults are advised before giving your dog CBD; this is important for avoiding medication interactions.
