Can CBD Help Rescue Pets in Their New Home?

It’s a rewarding experience adopting a rescue dog or cat – but patience is key, as these pets may have endured physical and emotional distress. CBD oils, such as our Barked Goods or Feline Purrrfect products, can help reduce anxiety or pain in your adopted pet.

According to the journal PeerJ, “Pet owners experience higher levels of self-kindness, common humanity and mindfulness than non-pet owners. High levels of self-compassion can promote self care, improving a person’s mental health.” Adopting a dog or cat gives the animal a chance to live a fulfilling, happy life. But for rescue/shelter animals, adapting to a new home can be challenging, especially if there’s excessive barking or meowing from stress. And if these pets are already seniors, they may be struggling with chronic pain.

Reducing Pet Stress and Aches with CBD

Hemp CBD oil can be given to new pets to support calmness and lessen pain. Just like us, dogs and cats have an endocannabinoid system. This system contains receptors that CBD can bind to, which can result in mood improvements, as well as anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. CBD oil for dogs and cats is easy to use: just add a few drops to a treat or meal! If your animal is on prescription drugs though, please consult with your vet to rule out medication interactions.

Bonus Tips from Baked Goods

If you’ve recently adopted a pet, congratulations! Next to considering CBD, here are some prep tips for bringing your rescue pet home:

  • Remove any houseplants that are dangerous to animals.
  • Make sure you’re stocked up with a leash, collar toys, food bowls, kitty litter, crate, etc. These should be ready for when you welcome your pet home!
  • You’ll have to dog- or cat-proof your home before picking up your pet. Use gates to block off certain areas, tape down loose cords, and store away household cleaners.

A happy pet makes a happy home! Our pet CBD oils have the potential to help reduce stress or inflammation in your pet. Browse our Baked Goods shop now and discover our pet (and human!) CBD products.
