Baked Goods Winter Self-Care Part I: Tip Sheet for Sore Joints
Winter can disrupt our daily lives with physical and mental changes! This is a two-part series from Baked Goods on keeping yourself healthy and happy during the snowy season.
If your joints tend to be more sensitive and sorer in the winter, you’re not the only one experiencing this!
“When it comes to winter weather and achy joints, the theory is that when it is cold outside, nerves and blood vessels constrict in the arms and legs, decreasing blood flow and circulation to keep our inner core (heart and organs) warmer,” explains Columbia University Irving Medical Center. As a result, stiffness and pain may ensue. Additionally, strength and flexibility can decline from moving less indoors, which means joint discomforts may be further exacerbated.
So, how can you manage or prevent joint pain this season? Try these simple tips:
- Take a hot shower or bath in the morning.
- Make an effort to move indoors – take the stairs if you live in a building, try a new workout app, or sign up for a local gym class.
- Adhere to a balanced diet to maintain nutrient levels.
- Give CBD a try to manage painful flare-ups. You can rub a topical on sore points, such as NuHope’s CBD lemon balm. Or make yourself a hot cup of tea with our Baked Goods CBD honey. Cannabidiol (CBD) has shown to be beneficial for its anti-inflammatory functions, which may also be suitable for arthritic pain, menstrual cramps, headaches, and more.
- Make sure you’re hydrated to keep your joints lubricated!
Don’t let the cold winds overrule your pain levels and wellness. Self-care should be practiced all year round, so make sure you prioritize your physical and mental health needs.
Keep an eye out for Part II of this series on winter self-care! In the meantime, familiarize yourself with CBD by reading this hemp and cannabis glossary from our Baked Goods CBD blog.
