How to take CBD oil for age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
AMD (age-related macular degeneration) is common among some older adults, but it can lead to losing your central vision. This means it can cause obstacles on your daily living, such as driving and seeing things up close.
So, can CBD help this eye condition?
The answer isn’t clearcut, as studies haven’t proven its efficacy directly on AMD. So far, anecdotal health benefits have been reported. But CBD could offer some aid for symptom relief, as it might reduce eye inflammation. In fact, when you take CBD, it targets receptors in the endocannabinoid system (ECS), and some receptors are located in the eyes! Further studies are needed on cannabidiol and eye health, but Medical News Today says, “…using CBD to target these receptors may help treat some eye problems.”
Here are some tips to know if you want to take CBD for promoting healthy eyes:
- Do NOT drop CBD oil into your eyes. We repeat, do NOT put CBD oil in your eyes! The oil is for sublingual purposes only (under the tongue). Click here to learn how to use CBD oil properly.
- Speak to your doctor prior to taking any forms of CBD. If you’re on prescriptions (i.e. blood thinners), there may be medication interactions.
- Start at the lowest dose and work your way up to a higher dose slowly. For instance, you can start with 5 drops of our Baked Goods 500mg CBD coconut oil. Wait an hour or two to see if you experience comfort, and if you still need more drops, try 2-5 more.
