How does CBD oil help PTSD?

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can be an alarming experience. But CBD could help manage PTSD symptoms.

According to the journal Frontiers in Neuroscience, “This disorder affects approximately 10% of people at some point in life”. It can manifest differently between people, with sleep issues, depression, anxiety, flashbacks, and avoiding certain places, people or things that remind you of a traumatic time.

Before we discuss CBD, we must stress the importance of speaking to a health care provider or mental health professional (i.e. psychotherapist) if you’re struggling with emotional health. Consulting with a health professional can contribute to your physical and mental recovery, especially when you learn coping strategies.

For extra support to help alleviate PTSD, cannabidiol (CBD) could offer benefits. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) modulates a range of processes, including mood. When CBD is taken, it could trigger ECS receptors to promote calmness. CBN (cannabinol) may also help improve sleep due to its sedating effects. And, if you’re struggling with eating regularly due to PTSD, CBN may work as an appetite stimulant.

FYI: CBD and other cannabinoids can interact with some medications. Please consult with your medical doctor or pharmacist to rule out these interactions prior to using CBD and CBN.
