CBG shown to have beneficial effects in first human clinical trial
Great news, Baked Goods CBD fans! Recently, Washington State University (WSU) announced lab results on CBG’s effects on mood, anxiety, and stress. This is significant, as it’s the first human clinical trial that has focussed on CBG.
This study analyzed 34 cannabis users over 21 years of age, and the WSU researchers concluded the following:
- When compared to a placebo, 20mg of CBG was linked to lowering anxiety and stress. (The CBG used in the study was derived from hemp and administered as a tincture.)
- CBG may have profound effects on cognition. “…CBG significantly enhanced the ability to recall lists of words. Participants were able to recall more words after taking 20 mg of CBG than after taking a placebo,” affirms Washington State University.
- Taking CBG does not cause harmful impairments or effects related to THC (i.e. getting high).
Keep in mind, further research is needed, as only a small number of people were analyzed; also, the participants already had cannabis experience. Still, the study unveils CBG’s potential as a supportive tool for mood and cognition. If you’re interested in reading about this study, it was published in the journal Scientific Reports, and you can access it here.
If you’re interested in CBG or CBD, keep in mind that different people have different responses to taking them due to genetics, current medications, etc. Please speak to a doctor or pharmacist to rule out interactions between your medications and phytocannabinoids.
