How Does CBD Affect Hypertension? Baked Goods Explains
Over a billion adults globally are diagnosed with hypertension – but only 1 out of 5 adults are managing it. So, can you take CBD for hypertension concerns?
It could be handy for reducing blood pressure levels if you combine it with a healthy lifestyle and if it doesn’t interact with your medications.
“Hypertension (high blood pressure) is when the pressure in your blood vessels is too high (140/90 mmHg or higher). It is common but can be serious if not treated,” explains the WHO.
Results from lab studies have been mixed, though some studies have shown positive effects on CBD for hypertension. One study from JCI Insight showed that a single CBD dose could help drop resting blood pressure and blood pressure responses to stress: “This may reflect the anxiolytic and analgesic effects of CBD, as well as any potential direct cardiovascular effects,” the study confirmed. Another study from the journal Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research disclosed that orally-ingested CBD could lower hypertension without alarming side effects.
If you want to try CBD for hypertension, Baked Goods has some tips to consider:
- Use a sublingual oil. By adding drops directly under the tongue, you encourage the CBD oil to absorb quickly into the bloodstream
- CBD will not cure hypertension. In fact, there is no cure. Along with medications or supplements mentioned by your health practitioner, treating high blood pressure requires lifestyle changes. These may include reducing your salt intake, practising stress management (i.e. meditation), and regular exercise.
- Please talk to your doctor before trying CBD. This is because it could come with medication interactions, especially if you’re on blood thinners.
