How to use CBD for pickleball

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in North America. So, if you’re ready to give it a try, ask yourself this: what do I have at home to alleviate potential joint and muscle pain? In this blog post, Baked Goods highlights CBD tips as you take on this racquet sport.

Understanding pickleball injuries

Like other sports, pickleball can lead to aches from the repetitive motions. Common pickleball injuries include:

  • Back strains
  • Knee pain
  • Elbow pain that is commonly called “pickleball elbow”
  • Ankle sprains
  • Shoulder injuries (rotator cuff)
  • Achilles tendonitis

You can prevent injuries by warming up beforehand and doing a cooldown after a game. Taking breaks between sessions is needed for proper muscle recovery, too. But if you’re worried about chronic pain, or you find that muscle recovery has slowed down, CBD can be considered – we explain below.

Using CBD for sports-related pain

Taking cannabidiol (CBD) may be beneficial for athletic recovery. Here’s how:

  • With natural anti-inflammatory functions, CBD can reduce inflammation to lessen joint pain and help quicken recovery time.
  • It can potentially reduce stress, helping to cut down distractions on the pickleball court.
  • CBD may also improve sleep quality to assist with tissue repair.

There are several ways to take CBD: you can use a sublingual oil or eat an infused snack. You can also add a CBD bath bomb to your bath after practice or rub a topical onto sore areas. Before trying CBD though, we recommend discussing this with your local pharmacist or healthcare provider; this is to help avoid potential medication interactions.
