Using CBD for your apartment-dwelling dog

Are you and your furry friend moving to an apartment? Or do you currently live in a small unit and bringing home a new dog? Some adjustments may be required, as there are differences for dogs living in a house versus an apartment. Baked Goods explains below.

About dogs living in small units

It’s not uncommon for canines to be wary of uncertainties, such as moving to a new home. But in a smaller space, dogs may get anxious due to:

• Loud noises from your floor or other floors (especially barking/meowing from other pets in the building);
• Hearing residents and visitors walk and talk in the hallways;
• Lacking access to a backyard for running and exercise.

Symptoms of anxiety, such as excessive barking or chewing, can ensue from unfamiliar situations. But giving your dog CBD can potentially promote calmness in your unit, which can improve comfort for the whole family.

How to use CBD for dogs in apartments

We have two options for dogs in our online CBD shop: CBD oil and biscuits infused with CBD. Which one you use depends on your preferences; some people prefer oil for controlling the dose, while others opt for biscuits due to convenience. If your dog tends to get upset at the same time daily (i.e. when the hallways are usually busy), you can give your dog CBD an hour beforehand. And if your dog happens to get startled unexpectedly, the biscuits are awesome for distraction and fostering calming behavior.

Keep in mind, dogs still need exercise and socialization. A CBD treat before a walk may help calm your dog’s composure (i.e. if he tends to bark at other dogs); but there is no replacement for regular exercise and positive interactions with people and other canines. This is especially important for dogs living in apartments! So, if you opt for CBD for your condo-living dog, please read the instructions on the label.
