When does CBD oil expire? Baked Goods explains
It’s not uncommon for us to be asked “when does CBD oil expire?”, especially if you haven’t consumed it for some time!
Generally speaking, CBD oil may last for a few years when left unopened – but, as time goes by, it can lower in potency. If you’ve already opened the CBD bottle, the oil may last up to a year. Maybe you’ve recently found a bottle tucked away in a drawer – so, how do you know it’s gone bad? Here are some indications:
- It smells bad: If the smell is foul or rancid, toss the product. This can indicate that the oil has already disintegrated.
- The color has changed: Does the oil look foggier or darker than usual? This can be a sign of expiration.
- The consistency is unnaturally thick: CBD oil should not be clumpy – it should be smooth. But keep in mind if you refrigerate your CBD oil (which you can do!) it can temporarily thicken. But if you keep it out of the fridge for a few minutes, it should return to normal.
Keep in mind that CBD oils should be stored in a cool, dry place, and never around heat. This can help maintain the potency.
