What we know about using CBD for IBS

As we’ve explained in our Baked Goods blog, CBD may be suitable for different health concerns, such as sleep problems and chronic pain. CBD may also be effective for managing digestive issues, with the potential to help deal with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms.

Further studies are needed, though research suggests that CBD may be beneficial for managing pain and inflammation linked to this condition. “Because there are cannabinoid receptors all over our body, including our stomachs, it’s possible that ingesting … [CBD] may help with digestive symptoms,” confirms Healthline.

CBD promotes balance to the endocannabinoid system (ECS). When combined with stress management methods and a modified diet suitable for IBS, “…targeting the ECS may represent a promising strategy to modulate gut motility, visceral hyperalgesia, low-grade intestinal inflammation, and gut–brain axis alteration, all features that may improve IBS symptoms onset,” explains an article from Frontiers in Neuroscience.

First time considering CBD? Then give our trial version of Baked Goods CBD coconut oil a go. A sublingual oil (which consists of adding drops under the tongue) may be ideal for promoting quick results. This is because the sublingual route allows for CBD to be absorbed via the mucous membranes and into your bloodstream.

Take note: Please speak to your health practitioner before using CBD for IBS, as medication interactions can occur. Along with using CBD, we recommend exploring the integration of other treatments and daily practices, such as refraining from foods that trigger IBS flare-ups, reducing stress levels, etc.
