How to buy CBD oil for dogs
If you’re unsure how to purchase CBD for your dog, this Baked Goods article may surprise you!
First off, did you know that your pet also has an endocannabinoid system? This is why some people opt for pet-specific CBD to help alleviate their animal’s pain, anxiety and seizures. Though the phytocannabinoid can be safely given to canines, our furry friends may not be able to consume the same CBD products as humans.
There are several ingredients that we can ingest, but our dogs cannot – chocolate is one example. “In addition to ingredients, the concentration of CBD tinctures for humans is not always appropriate for animals,” confirms Laura Lagano, MS, RDN, CDN, author of The CBD Oil Miracle.
So, if you want to try CBD for your dog, here are some tips to follow:
- Choose CBD from the hemp plant: Hemp CBD contains less than 0.3% THC, which means it cannot make your dog get high. “Dogs have a high number of endocannabinoid receptors in certain parts of the brain, increasing their sensitivity to THC-containing cannabis products.” (Don’t worry, our Barked Goods CBD oil for dogs is made from hemp CBD isolate!)
- Make sure the carrier oil is suitable: As we previously explained, dogs cannot ingest the same ingredients as us. Your dog should be able to safely consume the carrier oil without adverse effects – hempseed oil and coconut oil are a few examples. Please carefully read the labels and consult with your vet prior to making your purchase.
Just like we advise humans, your pets should also start at the lowest dose and slowly work their way up to a higher dose if need be. Talk to your vet beforehand to ensure that CBD does not interact with your pet’s current medications.
