CBD’s potential effects on multiple sclerosis symptoms

Recently, we’ve had inquiries on CBD’s impact on multiple sclerosis (MS). Further studies are necessary, but scientists give CBD credit for helping promote symptom management.

First, some housekeeping: we always advise you speak to your healthcare provider regarding health concerns, especially when it comes to multiple sclerosis. Regular consultations with your healthcare provider are required for managing your condition.

Now, back to our CBD talk: It’s been thought that when you take it, it can connect to specific receptors in your central nervous system. This affects how you respond to stimuli. Though additional research is needed, CBD may contribute to managing MS-related symptoms, such as stiffness, mood, low energy levels, pain, and inflammation.

According to the journal Life, “CBD has shown potential in the treatment of MS symptoms…resulting in increased mobility. CBD also affects the non-cannabinoids receptors GPCRs and ion channels that will lead to pain regulation and anti-inflammatory effects through receptor modulation.”

CBD can be taken sublingually or through edibles or topicals. But please make sure interactions between CBD and your prescriptions will not occur; your doctor or pharmacist can confirm this. Over 60% of pharmaceuticals are metabolized by liver enzymes, and when CBD is taken at high dosages, it can “…temporarily deactivate these liver enzymes, thereby altering how a wide range of compounds is metabolized,” confirms the journal Frontiers in Neurology.
