Understanding Dog Joint Pain Part 1: Arthritis Symptoms
Arthritis is common among canines as they age. This is a two-part series from Baked Goods that discusses joint pain in dogs.
In our Baked Goods blog, we’ve discussed how CBD oil may be beneficial for dogs with arthritis. But how do you know when your dog is suffering from joint pain?
Arthritis is a disease that commonly impacts senior dogs. But younger dogs can form arthritis due to contributing factors, such as obesity. The signs of arthritis range from mild to severe in dogs, but they may include:
- Increases in irritability and fatigue
- Difficulties transitioning from lying down to standing up
- Trouble jumping or walking stairs
- Stiff joints
- Limping
- Licking or nibbling on sore body parts
- Expressing pain when the affected spots are touched
- Muscle atrophy
If you’ve noticed these symptoms in your pup, please see your vet for a consultation; let them know about any new behaviors you’ve noticed in your dog. Arthritis indicators can be inconsistent in animals, so your vet may potentially run diagnostic testing.
There is no cure for arthritis, but you can discuss a treatment plan with your vet; you can also inquire about using CBD for pets. Hemp CBD has anti-inflammatory functions, so it may be a way to manage swelling and pain. It’s wise to speak to your vet before trying CBD to avoid drug interactions.
