Can you use CBD for fibromyalgia?

Did you know that over 500,000 Canadians have fibromyalgia? This is a condition that involves chronic pain, fatigue, and brain fog. Our Baked Goods CBD can be considered though for managing fibromyalgia symptoms.

What is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition in which you experience whole-body pain. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain and spinal cord process painful and nonpainful signals.” The condition can come with memory issues, insomnia, and mood swings, and pain can disrupt daily functioning. CBD hasn’t been studied on its effects on fibromyalgia directly, though it may offer some relief by improving symptoms.

Using CBD for Fibromyalgia

Scientists posit that CBD targets the endocannabinoid system when ingested; due to this, CBD “… may interrupt the nerve pathways that send signals of pain between the brain and the rest of the body,” confirms Medical News Today. When CBD is administered in the body, it ‘locks’ into specific endocannabinoid receptors (CB2), especially those in the brain. By attaching to CB2 receptors, it may promote pain relief and reduce inflammation. Further research is needed, but CBD is also suspected to stabilize the sensitivity of cells situated around the nerves in chronic pain sufferers.
