Understanding CBD oil for your dog’s oral health
According to the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, 80% of dogs over age 3 tend to form periodontal disease. Baked Goods CBD pet oils may be considered, then, for fostering dog oral health.
What is dog periodontal disease?
Dog periodontal disease is when the tissues around the teeth become infected and inflamed. “Those tissues, known as the periodontium, include the gums and the upper and lower parts of the jaw bones that contain the tooth sockets,” explains the American Kennel Club. Some symptoms include bleeding gums, halitosis, drooling, and losing interest in chew toys. Regular vet checkups are needed for your general wellness and for supporting your dog’s oral health. When left untreated, dog periodontal disease is painful, and can potentially affect the kidneys, liver and heart.
How Baked Goods CBD may work for dog oral health
Administering CBD oil to your pet may come with these oral health perks:
- Could reduce inflammation in the mouth: CBD contains anti-inflammatory properties that may lessen gum inflammation.
- May promote antibacterial effects: CBD may deter bacteria from growing in the mouth, which can possibly delay the formation of periodontal disease.
- Can help relieve pain: Cannabidiol has been shown to contain analgesic effects when ingested.
Our Barked Goods CBD oil is available in our Baked Goods shop. We make sure to use coconut oil only for pets, as this can be safely ingested by canines. Add mix some drops into pet food or directly into your dog’s mouth (if you can do so safely, that is).
As always, we urge you to take your dog to the vet for oral health issues. Your veterinarian can diagnose periodontal disease, and you can also ask if CBD is suitable for your pet. (FYI: There may be medication interactions with CBD. Please ask your vet about these interactions before administering any CBD products.)
