6 Fun Facts You Didn’t Know About Lavender

If you can’t get enough of this herbal scent, this post may pique your interest! The makers behind Baked Goods fully embrace lavender, which is why we infuse our CBD bath bombs with the calming plant.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, “Lavender has long been considered a jack-of-all-trades in the world of herbal health treatments. That’s because the plant’s parts contain different chemical compounds that can positively affect your body.” With that, here are some fun facts to know about the plant:

  1. Evidence from Ancient Egypt has shown that lavender oil was used for processing mummifications.
  2. Lavender contains antimicrobial properties! You can add lavender essential oils to a solution of vinegar, soap, and water for a natural house cleaner.
  3. It contains the ingredients linalool and linalyl acetate, which have demonstrated beneficial effects on eczema, psoriasis, rashes, and itching.
  4. The herb is easy to grow and is recommended for beginner gardeners. Try arranging a sachet of lavender blossoms and place the sachet in your drawers or pillows.
  5. The aroma could help improve sleep quality. In one 2014 study, it was shown that inhaling lavender essential oils may be effective for targeting mild to moderate sleep issues.
  6. This plant has been linked to relieving menstrual cramps. In one study done over two months, females were given lavender to smell for half an hour a day during the first 72 hours of their periods. The results showed that the women experienced “significantly less pain severity,” says an article from the Annals of Medical and Health Sciences Research.

Though it’s a natural ingredient, lavender should be carefully considered if you have sensitive skin and/or allergies. It may also not be suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Please speak to your local pharmacist or family doctor to check that this herb is suitable for you.
